Meet the Team

NAME: Andrew Gregory
JOINED: August 2010
EVENTS:
- 2011 Hill Country Ride for AIDS
- 2010 Austin LIVESTRONG Challenge (90 mile)
WHY I CHAFE:
I got into cycling in college, where it made sense to bike everywhere. Since then, I've worked to find ways to be able to bike to work, to the store and to generally ride it as much as possible for various errands and meet-ups with friends. My first organized ride, the Austin Autism Society Bike Ride, was only in April of this year. It was a great experience, and I've been waiting for the right time to take on another big ride. I chose the LIVESTRONG Challenge for a few reasons. Some of them are personal; other reasons include: the mission of the organization (obviously), the hard sell that Spencer gave me about a month ago, being able to ride with friends and this commercial.

NAME: Hillary Lathrop
JOINED: August 2010
EVENTS:
- 2010 Austin LIVESTRONG Challenge (5K)
WHY I CHAFE:
I really really love Space Mountain, as everyone can see from my picture. And I also really really love delaying getting my picture and bio posted on the blog, to the point where my super-awesome boyfriend (who has a super-awesome cycling hat!) graciously does it for me with a not-at-all embarrassing photo, and not-at-all passive-aggressive-sounding and totally witty biography!

NAME: Kasey Brizendine
JOINED: August 2010
EVENTS:
- 2010 Austin LIVESTRONG Challenge (5K)
WHY I CHAFE:
Hello! My name is Kasey, and I am participating in the LiveStrong Challenge. I am dedicating my run to my beautiful mother, Debbie Brizendine, who could out drink, out party, and out style me at any given moment. Often times at the receiving end of "Kasey's mom has got it going on," I look forward to training and participating in this event in her honor!

- 2011 Hill Country Ride for AIDS
- 2010 Austin LIVESTRONG Challenge (90 mile & 5K)
- 2010 Hill Country Ride for AIDS (65 mile)
WHY I CHAFE:
I decided to become a chafer (or is it chafe-e?) shortly after the new year began in 2010. It began almost as an experiment: Spencer and I decided we wanted to give riding bikes for exercise and fun as shot, but both of us are better at sticking to such fitness endeavors when there is a goal to work towards. We'd heard of the Hill Country Ride for AIDS, and thought it was a perfect fit. It highlighted community over competition (clearly stated that it was a ride not a race: which kept us from getting too intimidated), raised money for a great cause, and provided us with our much needed goal: 45 miles in one ride. We trained for a few months, and apparently did such a good job training (or maybe it was that the race organizers did such a good job feeding us), that we were able to complete 65 miles instead. That ride hooked me: I fell in love with the sport, especially the charity ride format. The support from friends and family in my fundraising was really overwhelming and meant so much to me. I really just couldn't wait to do it again. So now we're back at it and trying to expand the team and expand our impact. Thank you so much for your support, you keep this endeavor thriving.

WHY I CHAFE:
Chafing for a Cause combines a few of my favorite things in life:
bicycles, being useful to my community, and spending time with friends. I've gone from part-time bicycle commuter to weekend warrior in just a few months. It is great to have such an opportunity to get in shape, help others, and spend time with friends. I have a set a goal of $250 and am dedicated to completing the 5K and the 90 mile ride (with the 10 mile bonus pregame with Luke). Please join myself and our team as we Chafe for a Cause!
